Repairing this and Replacing That - 112
Greetings from The Heart of Scouting
Not a great deal to write about this week as I only went out to Gordon Park on Saturday evening, taking Chris with me. He had not been for a week or so and was suffering from withdrawal symptoms. The full moon had already risen by the time we left the city, casting its eerie glow over the Matobo Hills. It was so bright and clear that I was tempted to drive without Inguluvane's lights on, but decided against it as I may have had a close encounter with any one of the nocturnal creatures running about. The National Park's chappies have after many years cut the grass along the verges of the roads within the Park, which besides creating a good impression, one has a better chance of seeing animals crossing the road in front. Alas, no animals were seen.
I must have been more exhausted than usual for I did not wake up until half past six on Sunday morning. When I did make my way from the "Stables" to the out door kitchen to light the fire to get the kettle on for an early morning mug of coffee, I found Chris already there, as bright and bouncy as ever. His comment was, "I suppose your bed was too comfortable and the early morning air a little too fresh for your old fragile bod." An inaudible reply. It was OK for him, he had slept in the loft of the Crew hut where it is warmer than at ground level in the "Stables." We gave climbing Shumba a miss.
Following breakfast, we took the pump down to number three well and started it up. Then up to the water tanks to check that all was well there, oops no water coming up from the pump, so back down to the well to determine the cause. I had not connected the lift pipe to the pump very securely and with the vibrations of the motor, it had loosened and was drawing air instead of water. The problem was dealt with in two seconds.
For the remainder of the day we under took a number of small tasks, repairing this and replacing that. Only Chris and I will notice the difference, to everybody else everything will be as normal.
Cheers
Norman
