All Provincial Scout Commissioners. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY AND TAKE ALL NECESSARY ACTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. JAMBOREE INFORMATION NORDJAMB-75 organisers wish it to be emphasised that the 14th World Jamboree is a Two-Fold Event: the Camp and Home Hospitality... We therefore thank all Scouting folk in the NORDEN countries (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland) for their hospitality in inviting 15 000 Scouts and their Scouters from almost 100 countries around the world to enjoy a week of home life in a foreign land. THE RHODESIAN CONTINGENT will leave Rhodesia on 30th June and full details about the travel arrangements will be sent to you as soon as possible. After a three week’s tour, the Contingent will arrive in Denmark where we will be met by our hosts. On 26th July we will leave Copenhagen and set out for the World Jamboree at Lillehammer. If you look carefully at a map of Norway, you will see the town of Lillenhammer about 200 km due north of Oslo. The Jamboree Site is close to this town, on the junction of two rivers and close to Lake MjZsa. It offers magnificent terrain and scenery. The surrounding mountain area and virgin forests also offer excellent opportunities for tours and hikes. CLIMATE AND WEATHER The average day temperature in early August is approximately 17° Centigrade. The nights are cool but not cold. At Lillehammer’s latitude there is daylight from 3.30 am to 9.00 pm. during August. As to the weather, the meterologists have promised to provide more sunshine than rain during the first week of August, 1975. ATTENDANCE There are expected to be 15 000 Scouts and Scouters at the Jamboree. Rhodesia will have 36 Scouts and 4 Scouters attending, consisting of one Troop. JAMBOREE DATES We intend arriving at the Jamboree Site on 27th July 1975, giving us two full days to get set up and organised before the Official Opening on 30th July. The only other full camp event is the evening Programme on Saturday, 2nd August. Religious services will be held at various points on Sunday, 3rd August. The Official Closing will be on 6th August, and we depart the following day. 14th WORLD JAMBOREE - The Nordjamb-75 symbol is 'The Tent Village' with the World Scout Badge Alongside. 100 Nordic scouts attending a trial seminar on the camp site at Lillehammer voted by a large majority for the motto 'Five Fingers - One Hand'. This motto has been adopted by the central committee. CAMP PROGRAMME AND ACTIVITIES In August 1973 the same Seminar discussed and planned the NORDJAMB-75 programme. * Only the Opening Ceremony, Evening Programme, Religious Service and Closing Ceremony will be held for the whole camp. * The main part of the programme will be decentralised with the object of giving as much activity as possible. * The activities will, when possible, be carried out in patrols of mixed nationali ties. * The programme has been drawn up by the Central Camp Staff so that the activities will circulate to all sub-Camps. * No central exhibitions will be arranged. * The activities will cover the following fields: Outdoor life - sport - nature and wild life - water activities - activities with technical and cultural aspects - international understanding. *** The focus of the programme will be a 24-hour hike along routes of varying length and difficulty. International patrols of 8 Scouts will share food, fun and fellowship with an experienced mountain hiker from one of the Nordic Countries. On the camp site there will be three stages erected. Contingents and troops are invited to perform. These performances will be announced in the daily camp newspaper and co-ordinated by the camp ‘show team’.
