1957-01-01African Scouts for World Jamboree An African studying to be a Roman Catholic priest, Scouter Larence Micheal Masundiri, will be one of seven african Boy Scouts in the contingent representing Rhodesia at the Scouts Golden jubilee jamboree in Britain in August. The Africans will be the first from Southern Rhodesia to attend a World Jamboree. They are members of African Scout Troops in Bulawayo, Salisbury, Gwelo and the Sabi District, selected from 24 African Scouts from all over the colony recommended to the Chief Commissioner of African Scouts, the Rev. H. H. Morley Wright. They were judged on Scout knowledge, character and personality. The cost of the trip and a five week stay in Britain - £215 each - will be raised in the districts they represent. 12 From City Among the europeans in the contingent of 49 from Southern Rhodesia are 12 Scouters and Scouts from Bulawayo, five from Umtali, four from Gwelo and the rest from Salisbury. It will be led by the Assistant Provincial Scout Commissioner, Mr S. D. O'Donnell. It will leave for Britain by air on July 27 and return on September 1. The Jamboree to be held at Sutton Coalfield, near Birmingham, will be attended by 35,000 Scouts from Commonwealth and other Countries. The British people have thrown open their homes to the scouts through hospitality committees set up throughout England, Scotland and Wales.
