Southafrican flag 19/1/2010 Ken Dickinson gave me the heads up to this web site and reading through it has brought a lump to my throat. Wow you are doing a great job here. Vaughan Brown I will go through all my old photos and forward a few through to you. As a 1st/12th scout qualifying as a GP Crew Member was often more important than my "o" level studies. Much to the dismay of my folks. Norm had a huge influence on my young life and often "kicked" me in the right direction again. The serenity of ST. GEORGES Chapel and the calming effect of G.P. are memories to be cherished. I used to enjoy telling my children stories about our exploits at G.P. That was when they were still at school. Hey Norm, do the piglets still get christened in the well??

australia flag 21/7/2012 My best memory was the time we arrived at Matopos for a cooking competition, and found we were a week early. Can't remember much other detail from that time, but we did go everywhere for scouts in a ChemServe van. I was with the 1st/12th from 1975-1977, then moved to RSA in 1977, and then back to Oz in 2011; married with 4 adult children in Narre Warren, Victoria. Interested in photography and videography. I have a couple of friends in RSA who are actively involved in Scouts (Mark and Katheryn Gutridge) and I got to help them with running "Barker's Boot" at Midmar Dam about 4 years ago. An interesting all-night challenge for the scouts.
My brothers, Gerard and Peter were also in 1st/12th, will point tham at the link and see where it goes.
Regards
Chris

australia flag 10/June/2013 Wow, I left Bulawayo in 1977, heading back home to Berwick (in Melbourne, Australia) and was amazed to find this site! I was a Cub from about '73 to '76, and went to the Cuboree in Ruwa Park in '74. The bus trip there we stopped at a servo for a P break or something and a crow would not let anyone get back on the bus. Also, for the whole camp we didn’t bath or shower, so on the way back we were put into the back of the Cub master’s bus because of the pong. When we got home I think our clothes could stand on their own... I still have the badges from then, sewn to my old junior school hat. I would like to send some photos, if you would like them.
Cheers
Pete

Southafrican flag 24/4/2010 I have many fond memories of my scouting years from 1977-1980, particularly the GP camps and competitions. The 1st/12th had four patrols. Leopard, Sable, Elephant and Buffalo. I was the patrol leader of Leopard. Really great site. Brought back many great memories of numerous weekends spent in the Motopos. My father Ron led the troop for quite some time. When we returned to live in SA he continued with scouting for a short while. Ron passed away in 1991. I now live in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa and will always be grateful for the scouting years in BYO. Well done on this excellent site.

Southafrican flag 25/8/2011 Just found your site which was mentioned on the newrhodesian forum. I was with the 1st/12th Pioneer Group in about 74-77. Mike Zac was the troop leader, Ron Griffin was the Scoutmaster. Mikes younger brother Fazac and I were classmates at Milton. Have very fond memories of abseiling at Gordon Park, JOTA at Rowallen, Hiking in Matopos etc....

20/6/2020 from Facebook I was in the 12th Bulawayo group. Our hall was located in the grounds of Milton Junior School, Borrow Street.

Brit flag 5/11/2011 Hi, My mother Cecil started the 11th Bulawayo (Riverside) Cub pack in the grounds of the Anglican Church in Riverside in about 1956. One of the Sixes was composed of guys from Waterford led by John Hargrove who later became head boy of Milton High in 1964. The Scouts started soon afterwards and a hall was build in the church grounds.
I went to the 12th Bulaways from 1960 to 1964. Vernon Wright was the Scout Master, still lives in Bulawayo.
We had a reunion in England in 2009 after 45 years comprising Brian Stewart, John Pritchard, Robbie Burns, Craig Whale, Peter Hutchings, Nigel Hunt, Stephan Mills and me.
I will ask Brian Stewart to send across some pictures of us, winning the Assigi from 1964, and from the 2009 reunion. Wonderful times at the 11th,12th and Gordon Park

Canada flag 20/8/2004 Wow! what fond memories of GP in the 70's - many a day/night spent enjoying the Parks many charms! Lake Scott must certainly have made a big difference to the Park. Bulawayo scouts are really blessed by having a facility of the quality of Gordon Park so close to town. I was with the 15th Cubs (Milton Junior) 1967-71 then 1st/12th (Pioneer) from 1972-78. Now living in Oakville, Ontario. Great site guys!! Keep up the good work!

Canada flag 19/8/2004 A great site with obviously a lot of work needed to set up and maintain - well done!! Got the address from Colin Anderson (ex 11th Riverside early 70's and I believe involved with reviving my old troop: 1st Byo Pioneer!!!) Very nostalgic time reading through the stuff on Gordon Park and the work being done there!! Was a member of 15th Cubs (Milton Junior - 1966 - 67), 1st Pioneer, 12th, later to be known as the 1st/12th, throughout the 70's. Many days spent in Matopos and other areas, abseiling, hiking and of course , had few good Assegaai and Rolling Stone competitions against main rivals: 8th (Norman's old bunch of course) and 11th. Recognise a few names in your guest book - excellant idea!! My regards to any readers/visitors from that era (especially to Norman S!).... What ever became of THE Assegaai??
