Operation Noah With the completion of the construction of the dam wall Many species of wildlife in the Zambezi Valley were threatened by the rising waters forming Lake Kariba. High ground became temporary islands where creatures sought refuge. Realising that many of these islands would eventually become submerged... 'Operation Noah' was inaugurated and organised by the Rhodesia Game Department receiving generaous donations from overseas organisations. The venture was initiated in 1959 and continued through to 1963. During this period the undes..ntioned animals were rescued together with reptiles, smaller mamals and imature birds too numerous to mention.
