Update Notice No. 3

Thank you for your reply to our invitiation to join with 600 other Cub Scouts, Scouts and Leaders from all around Zimbabwe in celebrating Scouting’s One Hundredth Anniversary.
You are reminded that it is your responsibility to get to and from Gordon Park, to provide your own tents, catering equipment and food for the duration of the camp. In short you must be self-contained. The Camp Staff are only offering the venue and activity bases, some of which Leaders from other Provinces must be prepared to supervise.


Further information is as follows:
1. Activity Bases.
Activity bases will be set up in Gordon Park. These bases will only be used when a reliable adult is in charge and is supervising the activity.
2. Over-night hike.
There will be an over-night hike, for able, fit Scouts only, to places of historical interest with which Lord Baden-Powell was associated. The distance of this hike is approximately 30 kilometres. You will be carrying your own kit. Owing to the camp being of only four day’s duration, not everyone will have the opportunity to hike, as each group of hikers will be led by a specially trained Hike Leader. You will need to ensure that you have a ruck-sack or suitable bag to carry your sleeping bag/blankets, pots, food, spare clothing, jersey and any other kit you usually take hiking. Water bottles and hat are essential. Water for cooking and to top up your water bottles will be available at your night campsite. Those of the contingent who do not want to go on the hike will remain in Gordon Park. Please remember to leave food and pots to cook in with them. Plan carefully.
3. Half-day hikes.
Cub Scouts and those Scouts not going on the main hike will have the opportunity of a half-day hike to World’s View. However, a charge of $10 000 for those under 12 years of age, and $20 000 for older Scouts, is payable to National Monuments at World’s View. Climbing Shumba Shaba, a high kopje just outside of Gordon Park will also be offered. All you will need for these hikes is a water bottle, hat and good hiking shoes/boots.
4. Chilly nights.
The night temperatures in August can be cold, and rain is also possible. Bring warm clothing and a raincoat.
5. Campfire.
A campfire will be held each night in Gordon Park. Be Prepared to sing.
6. Centenary Church Parade.
The Centenary Church Parade will be held in the open air St. George’s Chapel at 1200 hours on Sunday 12 August. Please bring your Cub Scout Pack and Scout Troop flags as Colours will be paraded during the Service. The Service is interdenominational, followed by a Catholic Mass. Attendance at the Service is voluntary.
7. Camp Newspaper.
A camp newspaper will be published daily. If you wish to contribute, speak to the Editor who will be in camp.
8. Camp shop.
It is hoped that a camp shop will be in operation. Bring some money.
9. First aid.
The camp first aid post will be maned by a trained MARS first aider. Any Scout who is on medication must ensure that he has sufficient medicine for the duration of the camp. Contingents/Troops are to have their own first aid box for minor cuts and scratches.
10. Other.
If you have a camera, bring it. A small notepad and pencil would be useful in keeping your personal dairy as well as to record the names and addresses of new friends. Looking forward to meeting you all.
